What makes you You?

Discover the hidden forces that shaped your Being
– and how to choose your Becoming
by Jon Freeman

What makes you You?

Who are you, really? What's the living, evolving intelligence of mind, body and soul beneath it all? This book opens a deep inquiry into the forces that shape you: family, ancestry, early experience, education, culture, biology, consciousness,
and the invisible fields of information and connection that move through your life

Drawing on personal narrative, scientific insight, and experiential knowledge, the book leads readers towards the forces that make us and ultimately shows how we can consciously choose who we become.
The book will be available early December 2025!

What Will This Book Do for Me?

What Makes You You? is not a book of answers so much as an invitation into a deeper kind of seeing.

You will explore your identity in a broader, more spacious way. One that includes your life experiences, your ancestry, your cultural conditioning, your early development, and the often-unseen fields of connection that surround and inform you.
At its heart, this is a book about becoming:
how you became who you are, and how you can consciously shape who you are becoming.

This book may articulate what you have intuited but not yet named and enable shifts that you wanted but didn't know how to make.

It will invoke feelings of connection and moments of inner knowing.

Rather than breaking identity down into parts, the book weaves them together - offering a view of the self as a dynamic system in continuous relationship with people, places, histories, and more-than-human intelligences.

If you have ever felt that something important was missing from the way we typically speak about personal development, this book may articulate the wider view you’ve been sensing.

A purposeful journey

The journey this book offers is not only inward. It moves from insight to integration to implementation - shifting your way of relating to the world around you. As you uncover the hidden influences that shape your life, you may also begin to experience new clarity in how you relate to others, how you make decisions, how you express yourself, and how you navigate the challenges and opportunities of daily living. The lens widens to include community, nature, society, and most powerul of all, the subtle field of information and meaning that connects all things.

There is a spiritual thread that runs throughout, but it is not abstract or prescriptive. Rather, it is experiential, grounded in the recognition that we are not separate from life but participants in it. The book speaks to the possibility that we are in ongoing dialogue with the world - that intuition is not fantasy, that synchronicity is not coincidence, and that real change is possible when we come into relationship with what surrounds us. It offers not a doctrine, but a reframing of perception: a way to experience life as responsive, intelligent, and collaborative.

A new perspective

This perspective can bring practical shifts. You may find that long-standing blocks begin to loosen, that old stories lose their grip, that new choices become available. The book won’t tell you what to do—but it may help you feel into what is right, timely, and true for you. It can help you develop a more coherent sense of self, not just for your own fulfilment, but in service of the kind of presence and creativity that the world increasingly needs.
What Makes you You? is less a conclusion than an unfolding.
It invites you to step more fully into the dance of who you already are:
shaped by history, open to mystery, and ready to participate in the ongoing co-creation of a more connected and life-giving world.

Resources for Further Exploration

The book includes a list of resources,
listed per chapter-topic.
Suggesting areas of exploration
on your own journey
in discovering What makes you You.
Most of the references are books. Behind most of them are teachers, practitioners, YouTube channels, webinars and podcasts by those authors and their students.

I encourage you to explore, with the reminder that if you do not feel comfortable or resonant with anyone or any approach you encounter, trust your knowing and move on.

It took me a while to learn not to surrender my own authority. I stayed too long with some things that didn’t work for me,
or past the point where they were adding value, even when many of them were good for friends.
What makes you You will take you on your own personal journey
to discover the hidden forces that shaped your being
- and how to choose your becoming.

“Who am I?” That’s the question we humans are always asking, whether we are aware of it or not. Our answer to that question largely determines how we act, think, feel, and relate. In Jon’s book, "What makes you YOU?” he invites us into his world and his answer to this question—an evolving answer. A multi-faceted, multi-dimensional answer, replete with all kinds of juicy paradoxes. An exploration that filled me with wonder and curiosity. To question limits, to go deeper, feel deeper, and ultimately know deeper—or better yet, not know deeper. If we want a shift in collective consciousness, we must first find the courage to take an exploration such as this.

I am excited to say I finished your book and absolutely loved reading it. I feel truly privileged to have been sent a preview. The way you write never fails to make me think of a concept I am already aware of in a completely different way, so thank you for helping open my eyes even wider!

It is well-known that many shamanistic cultures experience direct connections with the spirits of plants and animals.  Assuming that you don’t regard that as illusion or projection, you might ask  - what is that for us and for today’s world?

There are “modern shamans” – people who work with that realm of connection.  In fact there are many – horse whisperers, plant spirit medicine practitioners for example.  There are well-known examples of people who garden in collaboration with nature, and books such as Dorothy Maclean’s “To hear the Angels Sing”, which describes how enormous vegetables were produced in the seemingly barren soils of Findhorn.  Machaelle Small Wright has given in-depth accounts of how she created the Perelandra garden.

There are also stories of animals – particularly horses - being used in healing.  There is a great story of one such in my Substack “A tale of a psychic horse”.  I also talk about nature spirits in the “What’s Nature to you” chapter of “What makes you YOU” and the chapter on shamanism in “The Science of Possibility”.

It is an inevitable outcome of the “information field” as a central theoretical theme in both books, that our ability to connect with what animates other parts of the living world will reveal itself in many ways.”

Your body is made of cells, which form organs and other systems. Anything in the world has sub-elements. Anything in the world is also part of a larger whole. This is the nature of holons, that they are identifiable, nested elements that we can choose to focus on, as we zoom in or out to the scale that we need.
“The whole context of Relational Being is that the universe is governed by a Field of Information. This includes the relationships we have with the flow of the universe in the sense of “God”, or “The Divine” or “The Force” or any equivalent term for the spiritual context”
